History of nature dyes in China

According to legend, as early as 4500 years ago, people were able to use the juice of plants to dye. The more powerful evidence is that in 1959, archaeologists found colored silk thread from the tomb of Yin Dynasty in Wangyukou, Anyang, Henan Province. This shows that people have been able to dye for at least 3000 years in the Yin Dynasty. At that time, people used natural dyes, mainly using plant juice, and some also used insect blood and other dyes. For thousands of years, the people of our country have widely used plant dyes. Many experiences have been accumulated, such as curcumin can be extracted from ginger juice, cochineal can be extracted from cochineal insects, and hematoxylin pigment can be extracted from sappan wood, etc.

Natural dyes are mainly used in textiles, clothing and apparel of natural fibers (wool, hemp, silk, cotton) and most man-made fibers (milk fiber, soybean fiber, bamboo fiber, Modal, etc.). It can also be used in handicrafts, leather goods, bamboo and wood products and cosmetics. While using natural dyes, try not to use synthetic additives to ensure the environmental protection and naturalness of products.
